Sliding or swing — how to choose
A sliding gate is best when there's no room behind the entrance for a leaf to open, when the drive slopes, or when parking must stay clear. A cantilever sliding gate has no track on the ground, so leaves, sand and gravel don't jam it — a real advantage on the coast. It needs free space beside the opening of roughly one more gate width.
A swing gate is simpler and cheaper for shorter openings on level ground. We size the leaves for wind — a solid gate acts like a sail — and add stops and heavier hinges on exposed sites.
Ready for automation
We prepare the gate for a motor in the workshop: motor plate, gear rack for sliding gates, reinforcement for swing operators and a cable route. That way the automation goes on later without cutting or welding a painted gate. Tell us the motor brand if you have already chosen one.
Protection and finish
The gate is the most used and most visible element. On the coast we suggest galvanising plus paint or RAL powder coating, with welds ground before protection. Wheels, guides and locks are chosen for humidity and salt.

Salt, humidity and sun wear steel out faster than inland. We choose protection by where the structure stands, not by habit.

Answers before you call
How much does a sliding gate cost?
It depends on opening width, type (cantilever or track), infill and protection. Send a photo of the entrance and the opening width — we give a ballpark from the photo. See Metalwork prices.
How much space does a sliding gate need?
Roughly one gate width of clear space beside the opening, a bit more for cantilever gates. A photo of the drive tells us if it works.
Do you install the motor?
We prepare the gate for automation. The motor can be fitted by your electrician or an automation installer.
Can an old gate be repaired?
Often yes: new wheels and guides, straightening, frame reinforcement. Send a photo — see Welding and repairs.
